What are Piles?
Piles, or hemorrhoids, are enlarged blood vessels that form in the rectum or anus. They can be internal or external and range in size and severity. The exact cause of piles is often unknown, but factors such as chronic constipation, straining during bowel movements, sedentary lifestyle, pregnancy, obesity, and aging can contribute to their development. These factors can lead to increased pressure on the veins in the rectal area, resulting in swelling and the formation of piles.
Piles, or hemorrhoids, can present with varying symptoms depending on their severity and location. Common symptoms include rectal bleeding, itching, pain or discomfort, swelling, lump formation, prolapse, and mucus discharge. Internal piles may not cause noticeable symptoms, but when symptoms do occur, they can include bleeding during bowel movements, itching, discomfort, and a feeling of incomplete bowel movements. External piles may cause pain, swelling, itching, and irritation around the anus.
